We place great value on our team of experts, who not only have the best of industry experience and expertise, but a real passion for people.

Our Approach

Our multidisciplinary approach targets and addresses the physical and psychological barriers that are specific to each injured person, factors that are contributing to poor outcomes and delaying a person’s return to work journey.

Our experience tells us functional recovery is so much more than providing exercise programs for our clients. It’s about providing cost-effective, timely recovery and return to work solutions for persons with an injury and supporting them in making physical and behavioural changes that assist them to realise their health potential.

Our approach involves:

  • Measurement and demonstration of the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Adoption of a biopsychosocial approach, with access to the full range allied health professionals within Altius Group.
  • Empowering the injured person to manage their injury.
  • Implementing goals focused on optimising function, participation and return to work.
  • Basing treatment on best available research evidence.

We value excellent communication and collaboration with key parties, especially the treating doctor, and we attend medical case reviews. Our consultants offer flexibility in providing services in the gymnasium, workplace, park, pool or home – inside or outside business hours.

We educate our clients on factors that prevent optimal recovery and return to work outcomes including:

  • Deconditioning
  • A poor understanding of injury
  • A lack of understanding of the importance of return to work or upgrading work capacity.
  • Poor manual handling and postural knowledge.
  • Reliance on passive coping strategies.
  • Lack of empowerment.
  • A poor understanding of pain.
  • Fear avoidance behaviours.
  • Non-specific or low adherence to a home exercise program.

How We Help

Initial Assessments

Having the right information about our clients, their injuries and the work they perform provides a strong foundation for a sound recovery plan. At OccHealth by Altius we utilise evidence based strategies to identify gaps in a person’s recovery and design a functional recovery plan that bridges these gaps. Initial assessments include gathering thorough background information on medical status, pre-existing medical conditions, living arrangements, pre-injury and current work status and current activities of daily living (ADL) status. Functional assessments, focusing on movements that you perform on a daily basis, are also carried out. Initial assessments provide a baseline measure of your current capacity.

Targeted Work Related Functional Activity

We support sustainable outcomes for those returning to work after injury - providing physical, functional and behavioural solutions to increase the capacity of an injured worker. Work Related Activity Treatment focuses on targeted, work related functional activity, setting SMART goals and self-management strategies – through workplace based, home and gym sessions.

Strong Biopsychosocial Approach

Using evidence-based assessments we identify the physical, psychological and social barriers impacting a person’s health, enabling our allied health professionals to target key areas and prioritise interventions for maximum benefit and sustained recovery and return to work outcomes.

Tailored and Adaptable for Success

Individuals who partner with us in their recovery journey value the personalised support they receive and attention to details focused on their recovery, including attendance to medical case reviews, the inclusion of sessions in the workplace to aid functional recovery and our strong focus on individual empowerment to benefit their long term health.
